Passport to Work is a pre-employment training program for unemployed job seekers.
Ten days of attitudinal and job search training are combined with a facilitated mentoring program over three months. Business mentors from partner companies aid the participants in their job search and keep them focussed on achieving their goals.
This program has been run successfully over 200 times in Melbourne, Sydney, Bendigo, Geelong and Ballarat. It achieved an average success rate of 65-70% of participants gaining employment at the end of the program.
The program can be adapted to a range of disadvantaged and marginalised community members or to longer-term unemployed clients. We modify the structure and level of support around the client group.
From a community mentoring perspective this program has been run successfully with over 2,000 business mentors from a range of companies including ANZ, NAB, Australia Post, KPMG, Melbourne Water, MMG and Hume City Council. It comprises a 2-day training program for mentors, fortnightly facilitation sessions and a leadership immersion experience linking the learnings back into the workplace setting.
